Walking Where Thousands Have Walked Before. Caminando por donde miles han caminado antes
Planning this years Camino. Planificando el Camino de este año

I’ve priced a paid subscription as low as I can as I’m not looking to retire to the Bahamas anytime soon! It works out about 13 pence per day, or monthly, it’s the price of a cup of coffee (in England anyway!!)
Alternatively, you could consider buying me a cup of coffee to help support my work!!
I think about the Camino most days.
It just brings me so much joy. My mind springs back to peaceful walking through Galician countryside, solitude being my companion, birdsong and the buzz of insects providing the backdrop.
Even in the towns and cities, peace and quiet can be found as in your mind you can be alone, drinking in the views, blocking out the trauma of car engines and horns. The busiest pavement can be the quietest rural track, the passers-by mere fleeting visitors to your world, seen and heard but not absorbed. Your focus is the path ahead, not what is around you. You take in what you want and keep out what you don’t need.
There are times when I am walking that my mind weakens and I am conscious of every step that I take. Tiredness allows the mind to wander and the irritations of life can creep back in, but shore up those defences, drive back the annoyances and keep your mind focussed.
And then there are those times when you feel like you are floating above the world, locked in some dreamy state of bliss, where tiredness and pain have vanished and you drift along wanting that moment to last for all eternity. Every step is effortless, you are intoxicated from the sights, sounds and smells, your backpack is as light as a feather, your body warm and relaxed and flowing freely.
They are the moments that will stay with you forever.
I can remember certain moments as clear as if I was there now. The board walks along the beach at Mino, not another person in sight, the warm sun caressing my arms and legs. The early mist as I climbed my way out of Pontedeume, my lungs working like bellows, but the pain negated by the joy of the stunning views as I looked back from where I came. The drizzle of rain as I walked through Tui at the end of my first day last year, a light soaking to wash away the dust of the day.
They are magical moments etched into my Camino memories, mere snippets of many, but all priceless mementoes.
Between Pontedeume and Betanzos , a formidable ascent awaits, its challenge amplified by the warm sun. I faltered half way up the climb, my body, for some reason, seemed empty. Onwards I went until the road flattened out and the summit greeted me. In amongst the trees, there were a couple of tables and chairs and an honesty stall laden with cooler boxes of food and drinks. An oasis atop a hill. It was magical to see and as I made my donation and grabbed a bottle of cold, sparkling water, I felt a euphoric rush. Sunlight filtered through the tree canopy casting a tranquil spell over me and two fellow pilgrims. It was quiet, it was peaceful, it was a special moment and in that hushed sanctuary the fleeting, but profound moment etched itself into the fabric of my journey.
It is occasions like this that pull me back. The Camino is like the Siren’s call, drawing you in time and time again. Not all will get caught; for some once is enough. For many though their hearts are ensnared, it becomes an obsession, a legal high that has to be experienced again and again. So for the third time, I will be heading back to Galicia to once more walk a Camino.
I have decided to re-walk the Camino Ingles. This was my first and I want to walk it again to truly appreciate it. Apprehension, tinged with anticipation hindered my full immersion during my initial walk, particularly during the early stages, as my mind and body adjusted to being on a Camino. This time I will savour every step and absorb the essence of the moment. From Santiago, my journey will extend to Muxia, a new path and place awaiting exploration.
So on Monday 2nd September, I fly into La Coruna, catch a bus to Ferrol and start my journey on Wednesday 4th. Pontedeume, Betanzos, Bruma, Sigueiro, and Santiago - familiar waypoints mark my passage before venturing forth to Negreira, Olveiroa and Muxia, unchartered territory, a rich seam of new experiences.
I am already counting down to my departure and, as the days wane, so my desire to be back grows, walking where thousands have walked before, lost in my own peace and solitude.

Me trae mucha alegría.
He decidido volver a recorrer el Camino Inglés.
